Polymer & Co.

João Amaro
São Paulo, Brazil
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering at Universidade de São Paulo
First year Master in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Université catholique de Louvain
Motivation
As a student of materials engineering aiming for a career in R&D in the polymer industry, I decided to engage in this Project as a means of exposing myself to an environment and problems similar to those I will face in my professional career.
Expectation(s)
By the end of the semester, I expect through this project to practice improve the technical knowledge I acquired in my formation until now as well as develop skills in quality control, materials selection and innovation.

Alexis Andre
Brussels, Belgium
Bachelor in Engineering at Université Catholique de Louvain
First year Master in Chemical engineering and Materials science specialized in polymers and macromolecules
Motivation
I wanted to be part of this project because I like to work in a team and have very tangible objectives. I am very enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to the development of an object that could be useful in several different environments.

Expectation
I expect to become acquainted with 3D printing, to learn about 3D design and to practically explore polymer properties. I also would like to be more comfortable with running experiments in a laboratory. I expect this project to give me opportunities to explore theoretical as well as practical aspects to be able to produce the final deliverable.

Pierre Decock
Brussels, Belgium
Master in Bio-Engineering specialized in Chemistry and bioindustry
Motivation
I'm doing my master thesis in heterogeneous catalysis. I'm very interested in polymer science and through this project the use of a 3D printer is a unique opportunity to further develop my theoratical and practical skills acquired until now through my studies.
Expectation(s)
This project will help me to have a better understanding of the link between polymers utilities and their features.

Robin Hainaut
Brussels, Belgium
Bachelor in Engineering at Université Catholique de Louvain
Second year Master in Chemical engineering and Materials science specialized in Environmental engineering
Exchange in first semester of second-year Masters at EPFL as a Chemical and Environmental engineer.
Motivation
I chose to follow this course to improve my theoretical knowledge about polymer science and also put into practice this theory by building a 3D object by means of a 3D printer.
Expectation(s)
Throughout this project I expect to get familiar with polymers as well as 3D printing. Furthermore, I hope that this project will improve my way of managing/working with/as a team as that will be the case in my future professional career.

Benoît Notredame
Brussels, Belgium
Bachelor in Chemistry at Université Catholique de Louvain
Second year Masters in Chemistry at Université catholique de Louvain
Motivation
I chose this polymer Project to put into practice the theoretical knowledge I have acquired through my studies.
As a (future) chemist, this Project is a great opportunity to work with chemical engineers and therefore become familiar with their way to approach/solve problems.
Expectation(s)
This project is a great opportunity to master 3D-printing by innovating our own object as well as having a better idea on the issues and solutions encountered through the development of a new product. Finally, this project represents an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team and learn from others.

Fernando Rocha
São Paulo ,Brazil
Bachelor in petroleum engineering at Universidade de São Paulo
First year Master in Chemical engineering and Materials science at Université Catholique de Louvain
Motivation
I am in the project of polymer science because these field interests me and complete my curriculum. My goal is to well comprehend all the process in the petroleum field: from the exploration/explotation to the refining and analyse of products.
Expectation(s)
The project is a very good oportunity to well understant the polymer analyses and properties and also to obtain expertise in the manipulation of a 3D printer, an important tool nowadays.
